1. Are We Having Fun Yet?
The December article is somewhat of a reflective,
article, (good for this time of year) inviting you to
ask your self if you are still going to work each day
with a smile on your face looking forward to what you
do. The title of the article is, "Are We Having Fun Yet?" .

2. December 2002 e-ret@iler advisory: Signs and
displays sell more merchandise

We found a report in Do It Yourself Retailing, a magazine for hardware and home centers that has some fascinating information about the use of signs and point of purchasedisplays. While you may not be in the hardware business, I bet the information will still have a high percentage of return for your time and efforts.

Merchandise in a temporary dump bin display showed a sales increase of 427%
Merchandise put in a permanent dump bin display
showed a sales increase of 197%
Items placed on a rolling rack with signage had a
sales increase of 134%
Merchandise that was a part of a power aisle stack
display had a sales increase of 98%
For businesses that placed merchandise on a
service counter, there was an increase of 81%
A check out counter display increased sales by 39%
Feature endcaps increased sales by 25%
Cross merchandising increased sales by 15%
In aisle feature/benefit signs increased sales by 6%

3. New product from Profits Plus: AMP Calculator

Our AMP calculator (which stands for Advertising,
Marketing, and Promoting) is now available
as an online service. If you have struggled to develop an annual plan for your business with regard to these three aspects, then we have the tool for you! The AMP calculator will guide you through a series of questions (Do you want to create an advertising budget as a percentage of gross revenue? How many radio stations will you use? Do you want to set aside a part of this money for last minute opportunities and donation advertising?) As you answer these questions, the AMP calculator will develop this plan for you and even assist you in creating themes and names for your events.

Better yet, the plan can be revised as often as you
need to. Your information will be stored online,
and secured by a code that only you will know.

4. Our Power Promoting Idea of the month:
A New Years Resolution for Bragging

Don't you just love it when a customer sends
you a letter and lets you know how they
appreciate a product or service they purchased
from your business? How about a letter stating
how much one of your employees has done for
a customer?

Experience has shown that when you post one letter from a customer,it prompts another customer to write. When you create a "brag bulletin board" you will actually see people wandering over to the board
to see what is posted. The more that is posted,
the more customers have confidence in your
quality staff, products and services.

in your business

Small Business

AdvisorieS

The May Small Business Advisory is titled "Planning for a successful accountant" and is appropriate for many with the April 15 tax deadline having passed.

Did you work with your accountant? Or, did you just give them a bunch of papers and wait to receive a completed tax return?

Successfully working with an accountant requires a partnership. This month's Small Business Advisory gives suggestions of how to make this happen in 2024.

News

Top Story

We see that many small business owners have too much of a focus on the "top line" of their income statement.

Increasing revenue is great, but it is not a cure all for any challenges your business is facing. And sometimes, incresing revenue can create a challenge.

Article of the Month

Who is your customer? Some small businesses have no focus. Their customer is whoever calls or walks in the door.

And some small businesses have determined which customers, in sufficient numbers, they should spend their efforts to attract.

The article of the month shares an old Southern rhyming couplet about business; "The bertter you niche, the more you get rich."

Book of the Month

Lean Startup by Eric Reis is our suggested book for May.

As the title suggests, the reader of the book would be someone that is starting their business. However, we see more value than just that.

Perhaps you have been in business for many years. We think this book could give insight to items, and methods, that a small business owner should think about with their business today.
