1. Problem Solving with SARA
Our November article on the Profits Plus website is entitled, "Problem Solving with SARA". No, SARA is not the name of a new employee for a business, but is a technique that works with many types of people - from front line employees in a business to police detectives working on major crime cases. See how SARA can help in your business to solve the needs of your customers.

2. November 2002 e-ret@iler advisory:
Does your business sell gifts for the holidays? Absolutely! Of course, the clothing stores and gift shops have gifts. But what about the hardware stores, auto parts jobbers, and the hearth industry? The answer is still a resounding YES - if you decide you sell gifts.

Years ago our family purchased a business from another family. The senior member of the family said December was a poor month because everyone goes to the mall. And so, they always did have a poor December. My father saw the scenario quite differently. December was a poor month for this business because this business owner had decided it was a poor month.

When mid November rolled around, the store was decorated with festive colors, and bows placed on many items. To someone, everything is a gift item. We just have to place the thought in their mind. To the person who has worked hard to clean their pool during the season, a gift of a pool cleaning service for a year would make an excellent gift. See the idea?

3. New product from Profits Plus: AMP Calculator to premiere November 15!

Our AMP calculator (which stands for Advertising, Marketing, and Promoting) will soon be available as an online service. If you have struggled to develop an annual plan for your business with regard to these three aspects, then we have the tool for you! The AMP calculator will guide you through a series of questions (Do you want to create an advertising budget as a percentage of gross revenue? How many radio stations will you use? Do you want to set aside a part of this money for last minute opportunities and donation advertising?) As you answer these questions, the AMP calculator will develop this plan for you and even assist you in creating themes and names for your events.

4. Our Power Promoting Idea of the month: Getting the most from your phones

When you close your business each day, there is no reason why your phone shouldn't continue to work for you. Install an answering machine that can at least give an outbound message about your business, products, services, and hours of operation. You can also have the answering machine take messages so that you can impress your customers by placing a call to them before you open the next day to let them know you want their business, and take their order.

Check here if you plan to use this idea in your business

Small Business

AdvisorieS

The May Small Business Advisory is titled "Planning for a successful accountant" and is appropriate for many with the April 15 tax deadline having passed.

Did you work with your accountant? Or, did you just give them a bunch of papers and wait to receive a completed tax return?

Successfully working with an accountant requires a partnership. This month's Small Business Advisory gives suggestions of how to make this happen in 2024.

News

Top Story

We see that many small business owners have too much of a focus on the "top line" of their income statement.

Increasing revenue is great, but it is not a cure all for any challenges your business is facing. And sometimes, incresing revenue can create a challenge.

Article of the Month

Who is your customer? Some small businesses have no focus. Their customer is whoever calls or walks in the door.

And some small businesses have determined which customers, in sufficient numbers, they should spend their efforts to attract.

The article of the month shares an old Southern rhyming couplet about business; "The bertter you niche, the more you get rich."

Book of the Month

Lean Startup by Eric Reis is our suggested book for May.

As the title suggests, the reader of the book would be someone that is starting their business. However, we see more value than just that.

Perhaps you have been in business for many years. We think this book could give insight to items, and methods, that a small business owner should think about with their business today.
