Techniques for salespeople working together

very appropriate in sharing a sales technique.

2. e-ret@iler advisory of the month: Take Your
Child to Work Day

You have probably heard me state in presentations
I have given that there is no more admirable job
than that of owning or managing a small business.

If we want our profession to grow then we have
to expose the next generation to what we do.

April 24 is the date for Take Your Child to Work
Day. And the title of the event says it all. You
work in a fascinating industry. With my children
I am amazed at how they like to wander through
a retail business and analyze why the store
is arranged the way it is, and how customers are
seeing the merchandise. I am thrilled that they
see many of the same things that I observe. Maybe
I am developing someone to be a part of
Profits Plus in later years. And that is exactly
why you should expose your children to your
business.

you.

3. Sales tip of the month: Have you seen the
new ...?

In the past several months we have talked about
ways that we can initiate the experience a
customer has with our business. Of course, we
could tried that old traditional, "Can I help
you?" But then again, we would be like everyone
else.

Instead, imagine a customer walking into your
business. In many situations when they notice
you looking at them, they will say, "I am just
looking."

How about a response that is sure to get their
curiosity going? "Great! Have you seen the
new ....?" And then have an item that you
can easily place in their hands. It is an easy
way to break that initial "ice" that often
occurs as customers first come into your
business.

5. Our Power Promoting idea of the month: Name
Your Charity Sale

Here is a great promotional idea that was
suggested by one of our readers and has
been included in one of the Power Promoting
books.

Create a promotion in which you hand to each
customer a piece of paper on which they write
their name, address, e-mail address and the
name of their favorite charity. As they make
a purchase, you write the amount of their
purchase on the back of the paper.

Your promotional material explains that
your business will be giving a donation to
that particular charity in honor of that
customer. (The business that shared this
idea gave 10% of the purchase amount.)

If you work this promotion properly, you
can get various charities to mention this
special event in the newsletter they send
to those that support their charity. This
can be a great way to get your name before
a lot of new people and get them into your
store. And as with most of these power
promoting ideas, you don't have to spend
any money on advertising to make it work!

6. Book of the month: Raving Fans by Ken Blanchard
and Sheldon Bowles

Working with a group in the automotive industry in
March, I had a very wise client make a point of saying
during a presentation that this book was one of the
most important books you could read. And we agree
with him. Take a look at this book and the other
reading suggestions on our website. We have just
added another group of titles in the past week.

Small Business

AdvisorieS

The May Small Business Advisory is titled "Planning for a successful accountant" and is appropriate for many with the April 15 tax deadline having passed.

Did you work with your accountant? Or, did you just give them a bunch of papers and wait to receive a completed tax return?

Successfully working with an accountant requires a partnership. This month's Small Business Advisory gives suggestions of how to make this happen in 2024.

News

Top Story

We see that many small business owners have too much of a focus on the "top line" of their income statement.

Increasing revenue is great, but it is not a cure all for any challenges your business is facing. And sometimes, incresing revenue can create a challenge.

Article of the Month

Who is your customer? Some small businesses have no focus. Their customer is whoever calls or walks in the door.

And some small businesses have determined which customers, in sufficient numbers, they should spend their efforts to attract.

The article of the month shares an old Southern rhyming couplet about business; "The bertter you niche, the more you get rich."

Book of the Month

Lean Startup by Eric Reis is our suggested book for May.

As the title suggests, the reader of the book would be someone that is starting their business. However, we see more value than just that.

Perhaps you have been in business for many years. We think this book could give insight to items, and methods, that a small business owner should think about with their business today.
