1. Details make a difference
The April article on the Profits Plus website is entitled,
"Details Make A Difference".
Read about Al and Bill as they each prepare for a sale. See how the experiences of one business can help you tune your advertising and promotional efforts to become more profitable events. And for those who may have missed a previous article, the January, February and March issues are still on the site.

2. Now appearing on the Profits Plus Website: New and free tools for you!
Visit the website and see two new tools to help you increase the profits in your business.

The first addition deals with "Open to Buy". From the front page of the web site you can click on the "Open to Buy" link to first read an article about creating an open to buy. The article will explain why you should have one, and will then tell you how to create an open to buy chart.

For those of you who are the "do it now" kind of person, there is a link to an open to buy chart that is yours to down load. Created in Microsoft Excel, this chart will ask you to enter your gross margin, anticipated sales for each of the coming months, as well as your current and desired inventory level. Put this information in and you will then see how much you can spend on inventory. Of course, you can download this file and save it on your system.

The second addition is our financial ratio calculator. Grab your last financial sheet and then plug in the asked for numbers. As you click the gray button next to each calculation, you will see how your business is doing.

Because of the complexity of this calculator, it does not download. So here is how to maximize results for you. Enter your numbers each month, click the necessary submit buttons, and then print the form. The form will automatically put the date on the printed copy for you. Bring the numbers back for the succeeding month and see how you have improved.

The calculator also has an explanation for what each of the various ratios mean as well as an explanation of how to do the calculation. Any questions? Give Tom a call at 727-823-7205.

3. Your free subscription to the e-ret@iler
If you have received this edition of the e-ret@iler by way of someone passing it onto you, you can add your name to the free subscription list by sending an email and putting the word "subscribe" in the body or reference line.

Small Business

AdvisoriES

Every time I see the logo for Target stores, I think about small businesses and the need to know which people to target as their customers. Of course, of most importance is the person who has spent any money with your business.

I ask businesses if they know how much the average person spends with their business. Most offer a quick response with a dollar amount. That answer is incorrect as they are telling me what the average existing customer is spending. The average person in any community spends no money with that small business.

Looking for new customers without any plan of how to do so is just spending money. That is why every small business needs to know how to find and use information. Find ideas in the March Small Business Advisory.

Employee retention; is it important? Or is it easier to lose an employee and wait for the next applicant to walk in the door? The Small Business News for March shares some statistics of the expense you incur when you make the change instead of working to retain a current employee.

Article of the Month

It is baseball season and we use the sport as an explanation of the cost of growing your business. In Boston's Fenway Park, left field has a wall that is know as the green monster.

And that is what growing your business is - a monster! You can't successfully grow your business without a plan and knowing you will have the cash on hand to pay for the growth.

Book of the Month

Are you selling something or persuading the customer? With your employees are you repeatedly telling that employee or are you persuading them to excel?

Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion by Robert Ciaidini is our suggested book for March 2026. Most definitely an appropriate read.

All this plus the Internet Tool for Your Business and a staff incentive idea for your business.
