February 2003 e-ret@iler advisory:
30 days into your 2003 goals

Did you get your share of the various articles
in magazines, newspapers, and on television
suggesting that you create some New Year resolutions?
How many resolutions did you make? And, how
are you doing with them today, with some 8% of
the year gone?

Establishing resolutions is an old tradition.
Often, resolutions created with the best of
intentions begin to unravel as time passes.
Think about one or two of your resolutions that
you have not worked on in the past 10 days and
let us see if we can implement some ideas for keeping
them on track.

A broken resolution is like falling off of a bicycle.
And when you do, the bicycle falls to the side.
It is not like a wagon that keeps on going, requiring
you to work harder and faster to keep up. The
resolution is sitting right there waiting for you to
pick it up and get back to work with it.

To get back on track, tell somebody about your
resolution. Telling someone means that they are likely to ask you often about the resolution and you will then concentrate on it. You will also want to show them that you can accomplish what you set out to do. Ask this friend to ask you your progress.

Chart your own progress. Think about someone that wants to lose 25 pounds this year. Instead of waiting
for November to weigh themselves, they need to
look at the scales at the end of each month. It won't work if they see the scale in November with only a 5 pound loss.

As you establish short term measurements of your
long term goal, reward yourself for being on target or ahead of schedule. Remember that achieving the long term goal will not likely go evenly through each of the months. Therre will be ups and downs. Go with the flow, and come December you will see the results of your efforts.

Cookie Monster Month
February is here and the Girl Scouts are out
in full force. Even with their limited selling
season, their cookes are the 3rd most popular
brand here in the US. They have eight varities:
Thin Mints, Carmel deLites, Shortbread, Peanut Butter
Sandwiches, Peanut Butter Patties, Friendship
Circles, Lemon Pastry Cremes, and Animal Treasures.
Out of the $3 they receeive for each box, the
baker gets eighty five cents, the local girl scout
troup gets fifty five cents and the rest goes to
the Girl Scout Council.

Our Frebruary e-ret@iler contest and the
prizes. Because we are located in Florida, we
are able to start spring cleaning much earlier
than most. Doing so, we have found a couple of
boxes of books for the February e-ret@iler
contest. Some of the books are The One Minute
Millionaire, the book that was so popular as
our prize in November. We also have some
copies of books by Debbie Allen and Rick Segel,
other retail gurus. So, as we clean out the
closets, you can win one of these most
valuable books.

To win your copy of a book this month, visit
the length below, and answer the question,
"What is Tom's favorite Girl Scout Cookies?"

The AMP Calculator
You spoke, and we listened. Our AMP Calculator
(Which stands for Advertising, Marketing and
Promoting) is now easier to access. At the bottom
of the front page of the Profits+Plus website,
we have inserted a link so that you can easily access
the calculator.

For thos of you that are new readers of the e-ret@iler,
le me back up a moment and explain the AMP calculator.
If you have struggled to develop an annual plan
for your business with regard to these three
aspects, then we have the tool for you! The AMP
Calculator will guide you through a series of questions
(Do you want to create an advertising budget as
a percentage of gross revenue? How many radio
stations will you use? Do you want to set aside
a part of this money for last minute opportunities
and donation advertising?)

As you answer these questions, the AMP Calculator
will develop this plan for you and even assist
you in creating themes and names fo ryour events.

Better yet, the plan can be revised as often as
you need to. Your information will be stored
online, and secured by a code that only you
will know. All of this service is available to
you for only $40 US. If you would like to see a
sample of the AMP Calculator, click on the link below.

Our Power Promoting Idea of the Month:
Have a color sale

When we first saw this idea in a retailer's business
we were impressed at how easily the event worked.
We bring it to you in time for you to implement
for Valentine's Day. It works just as well for
St. Patrick's Day, Memorial Day, Halloween and
many of the other "secondary" holidays.

With a couple of well placed signs about the business,
and on the front windows, the event works like this.
On Valentine's Day, customers making a purchase of
any item that is red or has red on it, receive a
10% discount on that item. To make it even more
fun and exciting, the sales staff is carrying red Sharpie pens in their pocket. When they find a customer that is looking over an item, (looking for some red on the item) they confirm that suspicion and them make a small red mark on the package or price tag.

The customer is amazed at their sudden good fortune
and has a good laugh with the store employee. Try this
at your place this month. You will love the results.

The Power Promoting Idea of the month comes from
the pages of Tom Shay's 100 Profits+Plus Ideas
for Power Promoting. You can click ont his link to
visit the resources page to order this book and
the other three in the series.
